For those of us who live in Sydney Australia, this June new moon occurs on Thursday 10th at 8:52pm and falls in the sign of Gemini. The Gemini new moon will cause a solar eclipse and will be witnessed in parts of the northern hemisphere. Readers from other time zones need to adjust the time (you can check out your time zone here https://www.timeanddate.com/moon/phases/
This new moon will be at 19 degrees Gemini and will be joined by Mercury which happens to be the ruling planet of Gemini. Mercury the messenger is in its home sign and this gives emphasis to communication style that is witty, quick, sociable and cheeky. This Gemini new moon will provide us with great opportunity to set our intentions around the themes of communication, improving our social skills, learning and curiosity, using logic and taking care of the health of lungs and the nervous system. Gemini also encompasses our siblings and neighbours – those people in our close environment whom we meet when we are young children and venture further out from our parents. We learn from our surroundings, we go to school and we gather facts and learn the art of social interaction and communication with others.
We have a supportive aspect from Saturn (13 degrees Aquarius) which lends to us checking our facts and being relevant and considerate of our effects on others. There is a difficult aspect to Neptune (23 degrees Pisces) where we might find our imaginations getting carried away and we may find ourselves caught in a deception. Remember, Mercury can be a trickster and is strong in its home sign of Gemini, so be alert to check the facts and ask yourself “is this piece of information actually true? Is this information of benefit to others?” We’ve all seen the damage that is done by gossip – Gemini’s love of connection and communication can make it indiscriminate and hasty to share with others without verifying the data and the source.
Gemini rules print media (the written word) as well as spoken word – NEWS falls under the domain of Gemini. As always, don’t believe everything you read in the papers or the internet. Especially now. Use discernment and make the effort to check the so called facts. Propaganda is alive and well in all forms of media in all cultures and nations. We are not immune to the trickery of Mercury which is impartial – it shares the information it receives and has no care for truth. That is up to each of us to discern.
So now to the new moon in Gemini – opportunities here to set our intentions to be effective communicators, to contribute to our family, friends and neighbours in positive, supportive ways. To learn and grow and make new connections that enhance and empower our lives and the lives of those around us.
Perhaps you’ve been thinking about starting (or finishing) that book project. Well now is a perfect time to set your intentions to get started and continue with it until completion.
Community activities fall under the realm of Gemini – it might be a great time to join a community garden or local club or volunteer at a local charity. Or join a class and learn a new skill. Haha – book club is perfect for the Gemini type! I’m a Taurus so I’m attracted to community gardening. A Cancerian may want to help with Meals on Wheels. An Aries might consider a martial art. You will know what attracts you, and now is the time to start.

Setting your intention
Optimal timing of setting your new moon intentions is in the 8 hour period immediately following the time of the new moon. Your window of opportunity to set your intentions for this Gemini new Moon (in Sydney) is from 8:52pm 10th June to 4:52am 11th June. (Note for readers from other regions – check your optimal times here https://www.timeanddate.com/moon/phases/)
To set your intentions it is important to handwrite your intentions on paper – there is something profound about the act of handwriting because your energy and intention flows through your hand and onto the page via the pen. Notice how your handwriting style may change according to your mood, so it reflects more of your inner feelings than typing on a keyboard.
It is recommended to create at least 3 intentions and a maximum of 10. Any more will dilute the energy. Intentions are phrased as wants/wishes and it is important that you write them in a way that activates your feelings so you are emotionally involved with the intention. Write them down as if they have already manifested. Note that this is important!
